Shadowkeeper is a wonderful tool, for bugfixing and help with item-making as well as cheating.

thanks six of spades for helping this guy.
Why you ask? many people on this forum just start from the start and just play the first few chapters to experience a character and find it cool. That's fine with me, really! but i am the kind of person where the kick comes out of progressing a character to maximise him, restarting when i was in the underdark was a really annoying thing. What happened was that i encountered a bug where my characters would be set any distance further than half a screen and when walking every about 2 and 1/2 full seconds my main character (and i think others as well) would pause for about 1 seconds then continue walking for about 2-3 seconds, pause for a second... it drove me nuts and ... well yeah... i patched my game but it didn't help (bulderdash as well :( ) any body who was CURED this problem please help... The stutter bug is caused by a script in your game that's constantly checking if certain conditions are met: There are many scripts that do this, and the fault is not exactly on the script itself, but rather that your computer is trying to think about too much at one time.
Fixes: 1) Put more RAM in your system. (Come on, it's not like you were already considering it.) 2) Drop your Bag of Holding. For some reason, the game feels compelled to keep the contents of the Bag in memory at all times, but if it's not in your Inventory the game can forget about it for a while. So ditching it (or, alternatively, dumping out the millions of Bullets, Arrows, Potions & Scrolls you've got stuffed in there, and stashing them somewhere else) will free up memory to let your guys walk around more smoothly. 3) Find the conditions that the script is checking for and fulfil them, so the game can finally stop checking. This doesn't always work: Some scripts NEVER stop checking. For example, there's a script that I think is added by the Ascension mod. In ToB, a certain NPC gets a free upgrade to a personal weapon. As soon as you enter a certain area with the NPC in your party, the game starts checking to see if you have the weapon as well, so it can remove the weapon and replace it with the upgraded version. For some stupid reason, the game <u>never</u> stops checking for this, even after the upgrade has been completed. Bugfixing time. I actually had to *not* use this NPC because the stutter bug was unavoidable, and would have lasted throughout the rest of the game. 4) Open up Shadowkeeper, check out the Global Variables, and see if you can shut the script down manually. Dangerous, but sometimes it's the only way. |
