I will mostly use melee, but i will also use a long bow. I want to be stealthy and i'm gonna dual wield 2 hammers.
to hide in shadows you need armour no higher than studded leather i think, im not sure what white dragon scales is, haven't played through ToB yet ;) or you might change armour to hide when need to hide and tank when you need to tank. Problem is sometimes if your caught without your tanking armour on and you get attacked (something that can see through Hide in Shadows) you cant change armour in combat. My ranger managed SoA with black dragon scales (leather) fine, and i used him as melee duel weilding longswords.
Charisma can be altered because

Ring of Human Influence is found in/just outside jonnys dungeon, 18 charisma ;)
So if you need high charisma to get lower shop prices just slip the ring on.

I'm assuming that this is without using CTRL-8?

The odds of anyone getting a natural 108 is so slim as to be virtually impossible. I'm guessing right now that it's in the order of at least 100 000 to 1. The fact that you get even one natural 108 means that yes, you should go out and buy a lottery ticket right now.

The White Dragon Scales lets me hide in shadows, and i don't want to use the Ring of Human Influence, cause i need the slot for 2 rings of regeneration...Also i want to ask, what are these things.. what happens when u press ctrl-8 or other things, what r these things and what do they do??

Ivelliis 09-12-2004 12:11 PM

if you enable cheat mode (i wont tell you how, it spoils the game IMHO) and make a new character, when setting your stats (strength, dexterity etc.) you can press Control+8 to get all 18's
Cheat mode also does other things, which I won't go into too much detail ;) stuff like healing, instant killing, jumping to the cursor etc.

You could always wear the ring of human influence when buying stuff ;) but it might get a bit annoying, stopping and changing all the time ;)

Moon-Child_Lman 09-12-2004 03:31 PM

Ohh so that's what it is, np i could find out if i wanted to but i dont, so it doesnt matter. But for the ctl-8 thingie to work, don't u have to edit the Baldur.ini thing first? I know u have to do this for the Find....Clua..thing....whatever....

Yes it would be very annoying, and why change my charisma, i`m a ranger and most of all an ELF and i`m beatiful ;) , and i dont need strenght when using the Crom Faeyr...

Ivelliis 09-12-2004 04:18 PM

But you need strength before you get Crom Faeyr ;)
And yes that is what you edit, which grants Control+8, Cluaconsole etc.

Moon-Child_Lman 09-12-2004 10:21 PM

no i dont cause i already have my equipment from previous adventuring with my long lost archer...

Dundee Slaytern 09-13-2004 12:26 AM

A jack-of-all-trades Elven Ranger? Hmm... ...

STR: 15 (to use Composite Longbows)
DEX: 19
CON: 17
WIS: 14
INT: 08
CHA: XX (Whatever is left)

Moon-Child_Lman 09-13-2004 03:25 AM

int-8, ehh? I'll be very stupid, . Thanks, will do, will see...

Ummmm....I'm confused here. If you are going to play a solo character, then how do you have equipment from "previous adventuring" with your archer? Are you deciding to go solo in the middle of the game?

It sounds like you haven't created your elven ranger yet (judging from your first post). You also said you want your ranger's stats to be legit/real - but you're gonna give him a bunch of equipment he wouldn't have gained on his own yet?

As I said, you're information is confusing me.

As for myself, I would try to get a score of at least 17 in Strength and Con for a solo fighter (especiallyin Con since it adds tremendously to your hit points). Since he is an elf, I would also try for the Max Dex score of 19. This will help your AC in addition to your skill with a bow.

Since you're aren't a multiclassed spellcaster, Intelligence and Wisdom aren't that important (although a higher Wisdom will help your saving throws against spells like Charm, etc). I agree with Dundee that Charisma should be your least concern. The prices in the shops and your interactions with NPC's won't be affected very much unless your score is in the single digits.
