Not valid cheese.
Think "Staff of Rynn +4 + Mislead" instead. Something bigger, when you enter ToB. |

Well, if we want to be a PITA nitpicker, a singleclassed Thief can use the SotM eventually, if you have ToB. So to phrase it another way, you cannot backstab with weapons that a level one singleclassed thief cannot use.

Or a valid cheese such as Kensai/Mages.

Well, ............ to me it's about time mages got *something* neat !?! I mean , if you choose to be a mage, then you have ALL SORTS of disabilities. It is next to impossible to solo a mage *unless* you have previous knowledge,, and then it is still very difficult. So why don't we just say that the SotM is just a cool item, which you get "WAY" to late in the game. Sorry, my 2 cents.

It's easier to solo with a Mage than a Fighter later on because of the wide variety of spells that the Mage can employ. Initially, a Fighter will be better simply because the Mage's powerful spells haven't come into effect. But with soloing's easy leveling, a Mage will be more powerful than a solo Fighter for far longer than the Fighter will be more powerful than the Mage. Especially with ToB.
Now, previous knowledge is practically a given. I don't know anyone who solos a game right out of the start. And not to mention that a simple reload will give you previous knowledge of an encounter. If you know what you're doing, the SotM can also be gotten easily. Not exceptionally easy, but probably around level 14/15 if you're a soloing a Mage. I don't think it's a bug. Resist Fear is a blue spell, but casting it will remove your invisibility, while casting true sight or melf's meteors (white and red spells) will not.

OK. So what's the "rule"? Which spells break invisibility regardless of colour? Shouldn't actually all spells break invisibility? Shouldn't be Improved Invisibility the one which keeps you still invisible after the casting? And why can you attack with weapons improved invisible (after one casting) creature and not with spells?
Whew - still much to learn... ;) |
