Hmmmm....that has definite possibilities. But would he be an Undead Hunter or a Ranger (Archer kit) with the vampire as a racial enemy?

Van Helsing didn't wear any armor in the movie (except in the opening sequence against Hyde), but he DID work for the church....so I guess he would have to be the Undead Hunter.

But to replicate that Crossbow would require a custom item. Perhaps a Crossbow of Extra Speed. A heavy crossbow that grants 4 attacks per round, but incurs a -2 penalty to hit with each bolt.

True moose,iv never tried a cleric/mage other than Aerie and she died alot.At high levels do they get good?I think ill try and one Cerek, how good is a jester in game?i know blades are good,i recently bommed through ToB with a Helf-elf one.Why are jesters good?

teardropmina 05-20-2004 12:05 PM

at high level, Aerie could be scary, not just good, but downright scary

btw, TheGodThatFailed...personally I think it's problematic the way you describe Aerie...she herself doesn't die often, it's the way you play the game (and the way you play her) makes her die very often. She rarely (if ever) dies in my party, and so I cannot disagree more with such statement as "Aerie dies a lot." NPCs don't die by themselves, they die by our hands.

TheGodThatFailed 05-20-2004 12:20 PM

Mm,I see your point, but i think i just get tired with waiting for people to cast and tend to go for more 'combat-heavy' NPCS and characters.Thats possibly why she dies alot for me,becuase i cant be bothered to wait for her to cast and march her off with keldorn to mash evrything to death.Ill try and play more 'maturly'.And by the way, when playing a solo sorcerer i found out that almost evrything is immune to my magic. How am i supposed to kill things when i cant hurt them?

But with all the death spells and things LIKE that, people kill me with them but i cant kill people with them.

I haven't actually played the jester yet, I just got the game set-up. It is going to be fun, though, because I can now choose all those "smart-a$$" comments from the dialogue options (such as telling Jaheira to basically shove her attitude). One thing I DID learn is that I'm not experienced enough to go solo yet.

I tried sending Joker ahead by himself and it wasn't a pretty sight. So I picked up the others and will be sending THEM ahead first. Once I get to the Improved Illyach encounter, I'll let you know how the Jester Abilities do. Until then, there isn't much to really test his unique class abilities.

Aah,ok.I read about the jesters bard song and it didnt strike me as being too good,as when confused, dont things tend to aimlessly run around so you have to chase them to kill?

Confusion isn't the best effect to have your opponents fall under, but it does have some advantages. First of all, your enemy will stop attacking you and start wandering around. While wandering around, they have a tendency to strike out at anybody that gets close to them - including thier own friends. The disadvantage is that they won't necessarily continue the attack. They may attack for one round, then continue wandering around again. The biggest advantage to confusion is that the enemy affected will usually remove himself/herself from the battle until the spell wears off.

The biggest disadvantage is that the enemy CAN still attack YOUR character if you happen to get in their way.

Still, when faced with a group like Improved Illyach and crew or the Random Wandering Party That Attacks After Dark in the rest of the game, the instant confusion cast on the whole group can come in very handy.

My regular PC is in the shop for some serious upgrades (like installing anti-virus software {it didn't have ANYTHING to detect or stop viruses  } and getting a much larger HD {120gb}). So I've had to install BGII on my boys' PC and start completely from scratch. I just got the Weimer Mods downloaded and installed last night. I created another neat character - a female skald (bard kit) - and was going to play her, but I had not INSTALLED the Weimer Mods - just downloaded them - so I have to start all over again anyway. If I have time, I will create another jester and see how he does, then let you know the results.

'Well I use Aerie every time i play the game i adore her because she can cast both cleric and mage spells.' - Xaphania

Aerie strikes me as a useless character because mage/cleric is a stupid multiclass. Pure clerics make good front-line fighters because they can wear any armour and wield magic h2h weapons which you probably wouldn't have any non-clerics proficient at. By multiclassing with mage you lose the clerics potential as a fighter. Clerics and mages don't have any required statistics in common so you need a really good set of stats. Some multiclasses compliment each other such as mage/thief - High dex useful to mage because of armour bonuses and the thiefs ability to use shortbow means the mage can actually do worthwhile damage in a fight.
