<span style="color: lightblue">Figuring out that Irenicus is going to be the final boss isn't hard - the game doesn't even try to hide it from you. Meaning, it isn't exactly a spoiler. BIG spoilers, as you put it, would be things more like where the final battle takes place, where Chapters 5 & 7 are set, and the final boss of TOB. But not Jon Irenicus.

About Elminster, the cleric levels are something to make up for the extra wizard level he actually has I think. Elminsters Evasion IS an actual spell, and in 3Edition DnD it's a spell to save him from harm and teleport him away. Also, he has a big load of abilities since he is one of the Chosen of Mystra, the goddess of magic.

in SoA he appears only once if you do the Jaheira Harper quest (and his name is a little changed ;)

He appears later in Tob. And IMO the ToB Elminster is sooooooo different from the "Greetings young one" original BG Elminster and the later SoA one. They really spoiled him. :(
