Let me ask the question in another way. You don't care anything about rescueing your bratty sister. What, in the game, forces AND/OR makes desirable going to the island that Spellhold is on? What other quests? SPOIL ME!

If you're not going there to rescue Imoen, there are precisely two reasons for going to Brynnlaw:
1) "Hey, that Irenicus dude hurt and insulted me. And if Imoen's face was any indication, I've probably got some dumb-lookin' scars too. Damn that Irenicus. He'll pay for this."
2) The fact that there's nothing else to do.

Does it matter...they are essentially the same character with different but still irritating dialog.

Oh, and as far as going to Spellhold to get to Irenicus, don't forget all the talk about unlocking your power. If you're an evil character, you may want revenge for the torture, but you'd also be interested in finding out what he learned about you (thus all the dialog choices to that effect inside Chateau Irenicus). Can't find anything out while the guy is MIA, so need to find him.

its a level 9 mage spell in the opening dungeon mind you so not entirely legit' . . .
