Erm... Good tactic, except it's kinda' hard to do that if you don't have enough mages and clerics :D .

You can always have a thief hide in shadows and then attempt to backstab the mage while your tanks burst through the door. One good hit from the thief will disrupt the mage's spellcasting ability
