That cannot be done, because Sorcerer is not a kit (the closest thing to a mage kit is a bard kit).
And even if it could be done, longsword would still have a flag "unusable by sorcerers".

You have an avatar depending on how many posts you have. Because you posted a few times your avatar changed ;) .

Icewind Gate will enable that possibility.

Another option would be installing Ashes of Embers Universal weapons -component(or something similar) which allows every class wield every weapon they like, as long as they have enough strenght and dexterity.

Personally I don't see any reason why sorcerer/mage should be unable to use swords. He _definitely_ would not be as good as fighter but at least he should be able to hold one, even without training.

I can understand the mage. He could (well, he couldn't, but for the sake of realism let's say he could) use swords, but he doesn't want. Pure mages generally don't think weapons are something that they should use. Else they would be fighter/mages or who-knows-what.

Sorcerers are different story. They are (if I recall correctly) 3rd edition class. In 3rd edition they can use weapons (but cannot became very good with them). In 2nd edition they are unable not only to use weapons, but also to multi/dual-class. While 2nd ed has some excuse (perhaps lame) why mages cannot use swords, it has no excuse for sorcerers.
Moreover, sorcerer doesn't need to study magic for years and years as a mage needs, so he could train anything.
