if there is a number in parentheses it is due to a magical influence on your saves (ie save vs death: 9(-2) could be caused by the saving throw bonuses from a ring of protection +2, or the cloak of the sewers and a RoP +1, etc etc, the only number you really need to worry about is the one before the parentheses, the second is just there to let you know the total number of things affecting your base saves.
