You are perfectly right there's certainly need of a thief here. Yet I still don't think that the tanks in this party are great. They are fighters by name but IMHO Valygar and Jaheira suck in melee combat and Minsc is only good if handled correctly. Only real backup with ranged weapon here would be Valygar again. So this leaves us with max 2 chars able to engage melee with the demon without being ripped apart in one or two hits (especially at this level).
And pardon me. Pickpocketing <span style="color: #FFFFFF">~somebody~ has become a standard thing to do for me every time I play SoA. So I kinda take the RotR for granted at the beginning of the game like the Ring of Regeneration.

I agree that Jaheira sucks at melee, but just if she is the foremost tank. Make whatever foe that needs tanking busy with other chars and bring in Jaheira. Casting Ironskins will also improve her tanking skills. In fact, with Ironskins she becomes pretty tankish. Sometimes I used her as a decoy for enemy archers to provide my fighters safe passage to the melee range [img]smile.gif[/img] And she withstood it, without even dropping her Ironskins. That fact made me want to solo a druid sometime...

ADD]Valygar can be a reserver tank (covering your mages if something comes from behind) in lower levels. Thats all due to his poisoned katana, which is great for beginning, and its pretty much the case now [img]smile.gif[/img]

Jaheira sucks in melee? at the start maybe! but give her the Red Dragon Armour, a nice club and a certain pair of gauntlets that increase her STR to 19 (i forget which ones) and she kicks butt! True she's not as good as Anomen or my PC (Ranger), but she packs a punch.

I used to think she was a waste of space but after a time she becomes quite useful!

Hehehe, tis an old song we used to sing in school to tease people who liked another classmate (well in england, not sure about russia and elsewhere) - my romance with Jahiera seems to have fizzled out :( think its cos she's dropped dead a few times and then been reanimated (seen that film? its great!) by Anomen - i suppose being yanked between life and death all the time will do something to you after a time!

AFAIK being killed and reanimated breaks romance. As being petrified does. Or you just may have said something stupid to her.

I would consider all remarks about pickpocketable Rings to be spoilerish, since this is almost certainly Lynn's first game. <font color=white>Dundee (or other moderator),</font> spoiler tags please?

It's reasonably safe to assume that Lynn's Fighter has good Tanking stats, Minsc can definitely Tank (he may have points in 2-handed weapons, but that doesn't prevent him from using a Shield if he wants to), and Valygar and Jaheira both have what it takes to Tank in this situation--THAC0 and Saving Throws. The Tanar'ri is only a formidable melee opponent if you've been Held.
