Hi Nerull,

Sazerac gave you some very good advice. The important points I'd highlight:
1) RPing should not be a chore
2) Evil is not necessarily Minsc-level stupid
3) Evil comes in *many* forms

You said: It was the insidious, scheming part that got to me the most. I try my best to be honest, and generally have a problem with screwing others over for my profit.

This problem seems centered around the player's will overriding the character's will (which leads to point #1, above). When this happens with my characters, it's usually because I don't know the character well enough. The best device I've found to counteract this is the user journal (and the custom biography). Whenever the mood strikes you, pop open the journal and scribble some in-character musings. Writing the character's opinions of events gives the character life - and it's a lot of fun. If evil's unnatural to you, this may provide the motivation to keep playing.

I actually did get quite a few chuckles reading the posts from SixofSpades.

Six's write-ups are fantastic entertainment and show players how to "think outside the box." They don't, however, show you how to roleplay an internally consistent character. That is a skill each player must develop for themself.

Happy RPing, however things turn out. ;)
