Beholders are floating gasbags filled with spells and Cause Wounds. Most of the spells in a typical beholder's arsenal have a save of some sort. Find a character with low save vs. spells, have him/her gulp a potion of invulnerability (provides a +3 bonus to saving throws) and chase it with a potion of clarity (protects against charm, hold, fear, and feeblemind) and go teach those things a lesson.
Best of all, potions can't be dispelled by Dispel Magic. If beholders aren't biting your head off, they're dispelling your buffer spells THEN biting your head off. For five glorious rounds, you can shrug off their spell damage, drink potions to counter the physical damage, and wipe the floor with their eyeballed carcasses. Also doesn't hurt to have a pet or two as distraction. Elementals or aerial servants make good choices here. |

(in-joke, similar situation, different forum) If you're in the Underdark and didn't take Saemon Havarian's offer, you've passed up your chance to get the cloak. But there's enough advice here on how to bash beholders that you don't need the cloak. |
spoilers (maybe, maybe not, depends)
. . . . . . . . . . . . The name of the location is Underwater relm or somthing, I call it Shark Empire ("shark father watches" -shark temple :). If you are not too far from entering the underdark, then I suggest that you load and take capitan's ofer - there is a lot of other stuff on the way and you also agin some exter experience. In the shark relm it's in southwest in one of those chests (you have to solve a ridle, but it's easy). That cloak is a beholder killer and you just sit there and watch them die, also might be quite useful aginst some wizards. I solved the imprisonment problem: stay on one place and don't do anything. They are not that stupid - after half of them are dead they start too shoot stuff to dispell protections(they think you have spell turning) so you just use a ranged weapon. If you use a sword you just have to always run away when they start casting(that will save you from imprisonment). |
Highlight for exact locations of the cloak:
* The cloak is found on a Sahuagin priestress (just a normal priestress, not one with a funky name) she will spawn in in the location pointed on the *map* as ''priestress''. * With the cloak on plain Eye Tyrants will become cheese cakes, with Improved Beholders... they get even more p*ssed at you and go for a melee attacks, neglecting there Magic Rays. [ 05-02-2003, 01:59 PM: Message edited by: Annatar ] |
That's why you should give the cloak to someone with good armor class and something like a +5 weapon and if they attack u just make some Beholder Sliced Meet©
|
for some reason for me, it didn't reflect most of the spells so I started dying and whenever I cast spells to repel them, they were immidiatly gone.

Excuse me but how do i get to this town to get the cloak????
its not on my map???? is there a quest which takes me there? |
spoilers
. . . . . . . To get the cloak you need to chose to get with captain after you leave spellhold, then you will get into the "shark kingdom" on your way to underdark, if you chose to teleport you will get into underdark strightaway and theres no way back! If you are past this quest you will have to either load game or use the "clua" cheat to get the cloak or the teleport cheat and get yiurself to the shark area (don't remember how it's called - under water something, i guess). But i guess it's better to load since there are a lot of other cool items that can ba gaind on the way. Hopefully you are not too far away from entering underdark and hence you won't mind to load, otherwise hard luck. |

Please pardon if I'm being a bit too forthright with this, but did you actually read the advice given on this thread or did you just scan over it looking for The Answer™? I will repeat again. If you're in the Underdark and didn't take Saemon Havarian's offer, you've passed up your chance to get the cloak. But there's enough advice here on how to bash beholders that you don't need the cloak. (Chapter 4 spoilers...) After you finished Bodhi's maze and defeated Irenicus in Spellhold's basement, you had 2 options as to what to do next. You could either use the portal in Spellhold's basement, or you could return to the first floor where all the inmates used to be and talk with Saemon Havarian. (Remember Saemon? He's the guy who captained your ship to Spellhold.) Both options would take you to the Underdark. The portal would take you there more quickly than going with Saemon. I'm willing to bet you took the portal, because if you went with Saemon, you'd end up in Sahuagin City (aka Shark City) where you could find the cloak of mirroring. But, as other forumgoers have testified, the cloak of mirroring doesn't always work. In its place, people have suggested other Beholder-bashing tactics. These will work too--trust me! Otherwise, my anti-magic party would be dead. Here's another tactic for you: You might have speedbumped over Otiluke's Resilient Sphere, but it has some uses. This spell creates an anti-magic field of sorts, where the target can't cast spells or be targeted by spells. A spell sequencer with lower resistance/glitterdust/O's resilient sphere should work, in theory. Beholders can be beaten with traditional beat-'em-over-the-head methods. And you'll feel proud when you can do it without resorting to cheese. Trust me on that one, too. |
