I'm with Xero on this. A mage going through the game, solo or otherwise, will need to use a little raw muscle in the game every now and again. The slayer is good with providing that against certain beasts. Now I know mages can't cast spells while in Slayer form, but if you throw up your protections beforehand then shapechange, you'll be tough to beat.

Slayer = last resort .... I only use it when it is needed.... MAn it just kicks ass!!!!

Elmonster would beg to differ.

I am a big advocate of roleplay over powerplay, and I'll spare y'all from the lecture. It's your game, etc. etc. etc.

Well, you can't always depend on spells Pirengle, a mage does eventually run out of them

just a little question, if you are soloing, and in underdark, where the drow most certainly don't know of your rep, and you kill a bunch by the slayer, how do others know that your rep has gone down when all those that witnessed are dead? Does helm watch and tell his priets or something?

So far, I haven't found a single combat-related thing that the Slayer can do that Korgan or Minsc can't--and that's WITHOUT losing Rep or dying after fifteen seconds. Half the time, my Slayer gets a Morale Failure, and your ApR and THAC0 become rather irrelevant when you're just standing there, wetting your pants, letting the bad guys pound on you, and unable to issue such basic commands as "Drink that Healing Potion!"

The only real use I've found for the Slayer so far is a way to save on Illithid Control Collars. That's about it.

I once used Slayer form when I played a saved game for somebody else. He was having trouble getting past a certain ToB Boss with his Sorcerer and Minsc, so I was interested in trying out the fight myself.

That was about the only time I used the Slayer form, because I ran out of spells, and I do mean really ran out of spells( no Project Image).

Not to mention mediorce equipment.

ToB Spoilers.

ADD] Note that as it was quite some time ago, I have deleted the screenshots already.

Interesting Bit o' Trivia:
Pro-Magical-Energy will protect against the damage from extended Slayer Change.

You still die if you wait too long, though. :D

daan 05-01-2003 09:04 AM

But would too long mean the duration of the Pro-magical energy -spell or just set timer after which you die ?
1 turn /level of being the slayer does bring some nice advantages

Dunno. I'll look into it...

Ponders about Death Ward.
