Although a ranger/cleric is probably protected from more stuff -longer- .. thats hardly a bonus since a figher/mage doesnt fight long fights.

You nailed it! ;)

I guess a well played fighter/mage would indeed be more powerfull against most SoA and ToB enemies .. although I'd be interested to see who wins in a 1 on 1.

Ranger/cleric <---> Fighter/mage

I'd go for the ranger/cleric personally .. if well decked out, I see very little oppertunities for the Fighter/mage to hurt the ranger/cleric.

Between having a better weapon selection (Ravager +6, anyone?), more HP (Tenser's comes to mind), and Improved Haste, i don't think i'm exaggerating by saying that the Fighter/Mage has a much better offense. And don't even get me started about Chain Contingencies, Triggers, Mislead, Wilting and the like. ;)

Now... Whehter Free Action, DUHM, AoF, Chant, Bless, Regeneration, SotA, Chaotic Commands, Champoin's Strength and Rightous Magic are really better than Spell Immunity : Abjuration + Divination + Illusion (Nature's Beauty and Insect Plague... where's thy sting? ), Blur, Mirror Image, Stoneskin, Fireshield : Blue + Red, Pro-Normal-Weapons, Pro-Energy+Elements and finally - Pro-Magic-Weapons... I'll leave for you to decide. My opinion is quite obvious.

Oh... one thing slipped my mind. Improved Alacrity. :D

But I'm anxiously awaiting your reply
I know the feeling.

Well .. I'd rather welcome you hitting me improved hasted if i took any damage at all from whatever you try to sling at me spell-wise .. since I'm quite positive its going to heal me anywayz

You quite simply just dont have the required sheer amount of spells it takes to kill me .. neither do you have the time. All your fancy spell-protections will run out eventually while my complete immunity to any physical harm, and partial immunity to any magic damage lasts a whole lot longer.

Hardiness lasts quite a while, and you can have quite a few of them.

Now Im going to do you a favor and not slap on the cloack of cheese, since that would kill any doubts and leave little room for argument.

The battle in my opinion would be a battle of endurance .. who lasts longer .. and since the Ranger/cleric has longer lasting protections, I'd take him.
Once he survives the initial unslaught a fighter/mage can unleash -and he will-,he's safe.

Well, I'm already playing a Kensai/Mage who's mage skills are getting really impressive. So, a F/M is likely not what I'm looking for.

I've never soloed - and likely never will. However, I probably will try to run a bare-bones 3-4 person team (3 core with extra slots for NPC-specific quests).

I want something other than: thief, straight fighter, F/M, or ranger.

Well, as said before .. the sorcerer *is* incredibly fun. You should atleast have used him once, wether it be solo or in a party . That really doesnt matter if you have ToB ,.. because eventually your sorcerer will be killing people/enemies/wildlife/bosses so incredibly fast that you can hardly call the 5 people standing behind you part of your group

Okay, could you or some other kind soul give me the link to Dundee's super-duper sorcerer's spell book list, cause I'm gonna miss having 20 spells per level in my spellbook. ;)

Here ya go:

Party Sorc.

And:

Lonely Solo Sorc.

Timber Loftis 03-12-2003 04:32 PM

What a pathetically limited selection of spells. Oh well, the sheer *volume* of them you can memorize makes it worth it. Thanks so much, Annatar.

You do not need a great variety of spells, with the right spell choose you can create mayhem & destruction on every citizen of the Faerun... trust me on this one ;) .

I would suggest a sorcerer, possibly solo. looks like uve got a few open games though, so if it were *me* i would finish those first, then make my solo sorc and blow the crap out of everythng that moved :D :D

Luckily, i can dispel them. ;) Considering we're having a fair match - we should be of equal levels. That would give me 50% to dispel your buffs per casting. If you feel like doing the math, figure out the chances you have to survive a heavy bombard of x7 Remove Magic (3 from Spell Sequencer, 1 from Contingency and another 3 from Chain Contingency) all in one round. :D

And before you'll try... Spell Immunity: Abjuration.

It'll take me merely one round to strip you of all your buffs (barring the 0.5^7 chance you would have to survive all the Remove Magic spells)... and we both know that an unbuffed Ranger/Cleric stands no chance. ;)
