Useless trivia of the day. ;)

In a poll conducted in the past, the Assassin was voted to be the 3rd-Favourite pureclass to solo with, after the Sorcerer and Monk respectively.

Used properly, an Assassin should face little difficulty most of the time. Just remember to utilise your assets,

1) Backstab
2) Poison
3) Traps

3rd-Favorite? Sure, why not. Challenge is fun.
3rd-Easiest? Not by a long shot.

Hmmm... I would reverse this order. ;)

I'd say the Swashbuckler is easier to solo with than an Assassin. But any thief really has an easy time through the game.

Dundee Slaytern 02-09-2003 12:17 PM

;) I did not mean to rank the list in any particular order, Alson. ;) I know the Assassin is not the easiest pureclass to solo with, but neither is it one of the hardest. Cash problems are virtually unheard of with a solo Thief-class, you get to have a Ring of Regeneration right after the Prologue, Mencar screams from traps and multiple backstabs( made even worse with the Improved Ilynich mod because it enables you to have dozens of Potions of Invisibility), non-range attackers stutter to multiple dosages of poison from a constant flow of darts from an Assassin to the point where they cannot even move, spellcasters get royally messed-up by poison too, etc... ...

Truly is the Assassin a most devious class to play with. ;)

Alson 02-09-2003 01:03 PM

A question - would you rank the Assassin among the 10 best soloing classes (duals and multis included)?

Dundee Slaytern 02-09-2003 01:22 PM

Dualclassing and Multiclassing brings a whole new dimension to the playing field, and it is for that reason that I usually prefer to leave them out of contention.

Like it or not, it is just not fair to compare a pureclass to a non-pureclass, as non-pureclasses are the combination of two or more pureclasses, giving it a huge advantage over the pureclasses. Factors like slower XP gain and limited levels go flying straight out of the window since we are soloing, and benefits are minimal after level 20 or so.

Since you asked though, in no particular order( and assuming ToB is installed),
</font>
  • Cleric/Ranger</font>
  • Kensai->Mage</font>
  • Kensai->Thief</font>
  • Wizard Slayer->Thief</font>
  • Berserker->Mage( or Cleric)</font>
  • Swashbuckler->Mage</font>
  • Fighter/Thief/Mage</font>
  • Fighter/Mage</font>
  • Fighter/Druid</font>
  • Fighter->Druid( good luck rolling ;) )</font>

Interesting... No Sorcerer? I find Sorcerers the easiet soloers by far, including the various power combos.
My turn now. ;) Again, assuming ToB, no particular order.

  • Sorcerer</font>
  • Gnomish Fighter/Illusionist</font>
  • Halfling (or Dwarven) Fighter/Thief</font>
