From the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition Monstrous Manual:

Golem, Doll

No. Appearing: 1
Armor Class: 4
Movement: 15
Hit Dice: 10 (40 hp)
Thaco: 11
No. of Attacks: 1
Damage/attack: 3d6
Magic resistance: Nil
Size: Tiny
Morale: Fearless
XP Value: 6000

The doll golem is an animated version of a child's toy that can be put to either good uses (defending the young) or evil uses (attacking them). It is often crafted so as to make it bright and cheerful when at rest. Upon activation, however, its features become twisted and horrific.

Combat:
The doll golem is, like all similar creatures, immune to almost all magical attacks. It can be harmed by fire-based spells although these only do half damage, while a Warp Wood spell will affect the creature as if it were a Slow spell. A Mending spell restores the creature to full hit points at once.
Each round, the doll golem leaps onto a victim and attempt to bite it. Success inflicts 3d6 points of damage and forces the victim to save vs. spells. Failure to save causes the victim to begin to laugh uncontrollably (as if under the effect of Tasha's Uncontrollable Hideous Laughter spell) and become unable to perform any other action. The effect of the creature's bite are is far worse, however. At this time, they take 1d4 points of damage by the muscle spasms imposed by the laughter. On following rounds this increases to 2d4, then 3d4 and so on. The laughter stops when the character dies or recieves a Dispel Magic.

As you can see a pretty nasty creature. The easiest way to emulate it's ability would be to make it's attack function like a poisoned Pixie Prick.

I usually get the teddy bear back and then kill the bastard that stole it. (I'm Chaotic Good)

Can you let him live ?!

And what would a Lawful Good do in that situation ?

Ok then that´s what I shall do. I let the boy wait for a week actually because I did trademeet in the meantime.

And installing baldurdash is harmless to saved games, it seems.. thanks.

I suppose we could name the doll... Chucky. Even if such a mod was made though... I just cannot fathom my characters using such a tool.

I always hated this quest, actually. "Oh, hi, I'm a ghost and I'm so attached to my little bear that I'd rather stand here in the graveyard and cry than go peacefully to my rest, or my next life, or whatever. I don't give a crap about my Mom & Dad, I just want my bear back--even though I can't even play with it anymore, since I'm a ghost. Anyway, I happen to have precise knowledge of the thief's name and exact whereabouts, because I'm *SO* attuned to this damn bear that I can find it, wherever it might be....but I still require a 3rd party to actually bring the bear TO me."

Indemaijini, there IS an Evil alternative: Get the bear, and then refuse to hand it over. You won't be disappointed. :D

That´s how it´s summed up. Generally I hate every quest that doesn´t involve any bloodshed or demanding thievery. Search and retrieve quests are the worst, especially those where you don't even have the slightest possibility to get killed. You all remember when Mae´Var and his friends were making you run to the Sea Bounty and back the whole day, carrying some silly documents. There is always the option to see blood running, but it rarely goes along with you alignment if you play a good party.

Erm... SixOfSpades, the little boy does try to take his bear back by himself. Recall that the Dwarf was being haunted by him. Problem is... the Dwarf keeps running away from the little boy, not knowing why he is being haunted.

This is where you step in. ;)

SixOfSpades 02-04-2003 01:16 AM

Yeah....but it's still a stupid quest. The EXP you gain for it is just pittance to you, but would be a fortune to some random Commoner, so why doesn't Wellyn just go bug some lazy Commoner and leave me alone?

Dundee Slaytern 02-04-2003 08:31 PM

It is at this point that I must ask you. ;) Did you speak to the parents afterwards? ;)

actually it proably makes the most sense for lawful good too. He should be punished, he killed a little boy. you could turn him in to the authorities but there's not really enough evidence(a ghost can't testify after all)

and actually the ghost being obsessed with something like a teddy bear is a pretty traditional ghost story. Ghosts tend to be focused on the circumstances of their death because ghosts tend to be created by traumatic circumstances. Especially if he very attached to the bear(say he always carried it)
