• Shapeshift Mind Flayer, eat his brain. Time Stop beforehand is recommended. A scroll of Shapeshift is available in Chapter 6, and solo Sorcerers can get it much sooner.</font>
 • It might be possible to kill Arkanis via Level Drain.</font>

Hmmm... I wonder.. What about DEX and WIS Drains? True, eating his brain is easier, but both Kachiko's Wakizashi +3 and the Chaos Blade +2 are available early in chapter 2... What do you think?

I thought about that too, but it seems that the DEX & WIS drains have too low a percent chance to fire, and when they do, they wear off too quickly. Especially when the only reliable way to get Arkanis to sit still long enough to hit him multiple times is via Time Stop, so (since Sorcerers can't use those weapons) requires a Thief->Mage or Fighter->Mage, which means Chapter 7.

It might not be a bad idea to suggest Weimer upgrades for these items, as well as for the Answerer+4. (Smack one of your party members with the Answerer and see how long it takes for the "Magic Resistance Lowered" icon to disappear--about 1 round, that's how long.)

The Chaos Blade actually has an upgrade. ;)

I think this must be an indication of how far the community has taken game-playing as an art form. All the enemies in the game that are supposed to be tough to beat (Kangaxx/Firkraag et al) that we've (by which I mean the BG commununity) actually *improved* to create some sort of challenge and now there's a discussion about killing a character who's supposed to be unkillable!

Brilliant.

If he does die, does he drop his sword?

And would Dundee's Bunny Nuke idea work on him?

No.

he is immum to magic damage...(Arkanis Gath) so abi-dalzims horrid wilting will not work on him... not even 20 times :D (and we think Kangaxxx was hard? ).. even ClAUConsole will not work on him (ctrl Y was it I think)

Annatar 01-15-2003 09:29 AM

an other thing... isn't **Imprisonment** a way 2 deal with this Uber being?
(no saving trows) okay this will not kill him but.. with him out of the way you can easly dispose of aran linvail and partners in crime :D .. and it is a very nice place for such a creature/god/allah.. whatevva (don't like it when people get to noosy)

and does anybody know.. when you kill him you get XP 4 it? or his little sword of mass destruction.. because doesnt seem 2 find the kill sword trough CLUAConsole and shadowkeepers hasn't got it either :(

There is one thing you can do, which is kind of funny, but will probably screw up your game - so have a reserve save handy.

When Arkanis Gath spawns, use CTRL-Q (I think, it's been awhile since I've used CLUA) to make him a member of your party. He will still attack and kill you, so pause and select him. You cannot unequip his sword, but you can make him use his fist.

Then he will continue to rush up against the PC, but he will not strike you, or do any damage.

If the PC walks across the room, Arkanis rushes up and bumps against him. From then on, Arkanis simply follows the PC around, rushing up and bumping against him. It looks pretty funny.

It will also cause Aran Linvail to lose his mind and repeat the same piece of dialogue over and over again - preventing you (unless you've sided with Bodhi) from going to Spellhold.

This is a good way to test various means of killing Arkanis, however.

More interesting, to me, is the way that failing to Save against spells such as Cloak of Fear can cause creatures to *drop* their items.

ARKANIS GATH

S
P
O
I
L
E
R

He is wearing the belt of immie.
He is immune to lvl drain, hold, imprisonment, death, blindness, deafness, feeblemindess, and the dreaded CTRL-Y... and can NEVER go under 1hp

but he is NOT immune to closing doors... nor INT drain. SO you can kill him that way.

Unfortunatly he doesn't drop his sword (its undroppable... :( ) but even so it would ruin the game. It gives you -25 A.C (thats what I got with 3 dex and no other equipment) and kills anything in one go.
