It really would not be hard to come up with some ideas for a 3rd story, maybe your character's son/daughter could carry on the story and then you would not be level 20 or anything, and it would be interesting to see the son of Minsc (LOL).

As for the engine, I would agree it needs an update but on the other hand the game is great as is, its the story that is more important. I was more into 3d for a long time but BG2 changed my mind on that

ToB IS a perfect ending, and there isn't much one could build a third plot on. As beeing suggested earlier, one could make it take place among the gods, that you have to prevail as a god too. But it won't be as the previous games. And if BioWare had a plan to make a third at all, I doubt they would make the end of ToB the way they did (don't wanna spoil ;) ).

Lilandra's idea is also doable, but that wouldn't neither be the same. If you have played with the same character through two games, and then suddenly have to start a new one in a third game...

3D doesn't neccessarily mean 1st person. A party based BG3 using a camera system would surely be the way to go. Zooming and rotating during the game would help to bring the game to life and personally I would love to see RPGs go down this road rather than the first person view which just doesn't work as well.

Yeah they couldn't make another one, unless they did something stupid like you got amnesia and lost all your levels or something lame like that. I mean say you soloed through 1 and 2 and tob and took off the expereince caps you would be some ridiculous level that wouldnt even make the game fun. You would just kill everything without any trouble. Sadly there wont be another Baldurs gate, but it probably is for the best.
