You mean aside from the fact that I can casually walk over to the other side and pick up all my equipment, then take a break as my Skeleton Warriors wail away on him?

I say there be a lot of fun. :D

About the 3rd stage VS. Invisibility - if only i knew...
But then again, if i knew ALL the possible tactics for ALL the possible situations, i would have stopped playing BG2 a long time ago... ;)
I did not know it too, until I actually fought him. I was like worried, because the darned guy kept following me! I thought he was going to cast Imprisonment on me. Finally, after 2 minutes or so, I gave up running in circles around the pillar in the middle of the room and gripped my Staff of Magi yelling mentally in my head, "Alright! That's it! Bring it on! I'll fight you in melee!"

And he stop dead in his tracks... right in front of my Sorcerer. I waited, and nothing happened. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/eek7.gif The next thought was of course, "All rightttt... this is... interesting... ..."

I whacked him with the Staff of Magi and re-equipped( +10 THACO bonus for striking from invisibility). JI stands there oblivious to what had just happened... I whacked him again, and the same thing happens. At this point, my jaw dropped metaphorically to the floor because dangggg... his scare factor just dropped to that of a diseased gibberling.

I stood around and waited for his Spell Turning to expire, then a Lower Resistance, a Greater Malison, a Feeblemind, and I managed to box JI into submission( with assistance from a Horn Berserker to bring down his life faster, but I sent the Berserker away when JI was near-death) before poking him to death with a +1 enchanted dagger. Hmmm, I usually have my rangers dual-weilding katanas (Sanchuudako from the Sola mod+CF+5) but this should be a new topic, Dar'tanian.

Nah...
For me, the fun is in the challenge.
The more tactical the battle is, the more i enjoy it.
Thus my fondness to the Tactics Mod, Sola Mod, and Ascension.

In some of these fights, when i'm in an Arcane mood, i feel like i'm playing chess on a 100x100 board instead of 8x8.

Then, when i decide that it's time for me to unleash the Cheese(TM), the board suddenly becomes a puny 2x2 board, and one word screams in my head: CHECKMATE!

Pfft, there is no honour in war. Do whatever it takes to win the battle. Why should I give the enemy a chance, when I can end the battle right there and now? Of course... this excludes tactics that rely on illogic, such as the Cloudkill vs Dragons.

In all the tactics that I dispense out, I always go for the simplest and the easiest one.

Dundee Slaytern 11-09-2002 10:48 AM

Of course... there are times when I feel mischievous and do silly things, like only using a Sling and Spell Immunity to defeat Kangaxx( using Spell Trap to refresh the Spell Immunities :D ). ;) And occasionally a Death Spell for his summons of course.

Fun? Diversity? Creativity? ;)

I like to win every battle with a different tactic.
If i would've used Teleport Field + AoE spells or Time Stop + Improved Alacrity all the time, the game wouldn't be as fun.

When was the last time you heard of somebody punching Dragons and Jon Irenicus unconsicious before proceeding to poke them to death with a dagger? ;) Has anybody done this before me?

If that is not a creative way to finish them off, I don't know what is.

Actually, Feebleminding Dragons is quite a common tactic.

I'll give you credit for doing this for Improved Jonnie, though.

What i meant was, that while, for example, soloing a Sorcerer, your tactics eventually becomes the same for each tough battle - summon this, summon that, Project Image, Time Stop, Improved Alacrity, end of battle.
IMO, it's kinda boring and the reason that i always play party games.
The variety of optional tactics is tremendously bigger.
