I don't like limiting someone's liberty to their religious beliefs. I don't like it because it invites a few inquiries that are themself too invasive or intrusive: is it a recognized (ie. real) religion? is this actually a tenet of that religion? etc. etc.
I think you should be allowed to wear what you want when you testify, but understand the admonishment that you risk diminishing your credibility in the eyes of the judge and jury.
