A lich is a wizard that has undergone an arcane ritual in which he or she kills him-/herself in order to gain eternal unlife. They have the spells they had in life and are not necessarily necromancers, in fact bards can also be liches.

The AD&D monsters manual states that wizards often chose to become liches in order to gain infinite time to master their crafts. This speaks against liches not levelling.

Liches need not necessarily be evil, but their undead condition usually tend to make them wretched over time.

Liches can gain further understanding of magic, in the form of learning new spells, devising spells of their own, and basically gaining a further understanding of the nature of magic, even though they cannot increase their potency with those spells (raise levels) when they've reached a certain understanding of magic and it's universal applicationthey can become demiliches, when the body falls away and becomes nothing more than dust and only the skull remains while the soul is off travelling other planes.

(i think if you add a lich to your party they will be able to level up normally) despite PnP rules to the contrary, and a mage must be at a minimum level 18 to become a lich(unless the ravenloft Requiem rules are being used) so he would have access to level 9 spells.

Yeah, the liches do lvl up in the game, they start with 22000 or so EXP, are at lvl 20 or higher and simply require the amount of exp for their next lvl, which you should gather (i.e.: next lvl = 21 -> requires ~5.000.000 EXP)

I ctrl Q'ed liches and made a lich thru vedrans lich-kit (excellent work vedran, if the credit goes to you !!) and I find they add a nice new dimension to my game. The new casting system is also nice. I'll play thru SoA this time with Zuvio The Lich (looks nice in the dialogbox when fighting high lvl monsters)

No, no, no, no, no.
It is not my work, it is just what I found.

I'm no MODmaker. But wouldn't adding a lich in the party suck out the fun of the game? I mean heres my example of a Lich battle:
Dierix casts:Spell:Time stop
Dierix casts:Spell:Symbol Fear
" '" " " " " " " Stun
" " " " " " " " Death
Dieric cast:Spell:Wail of the banshee
Mazzy:Death
Aerie:Death
Viconia: Save vs Spell
Viconia: Death
Minsc:Save vs spell
Minsc save vs spell
Minsc:Stunned
Edwin:Stunned
Edwin: Death
Ballchiled: Save vs spell
Ballchiled:save vs spell
Ballchiled : Save vs spell
Dierix casts:Spell:Finger of Death: Minsc
Minsc: Death
Ballchiled casts:Khelbens wharding whip:Dierix
Dierix:Spell protections removed
Dierix casts:Spell: Flesh to stone: Ball chiled
Ballchiled:Petrified

GAME OVER

As I have just explained lichs, if used properly, they can defeat ANYONE!
Becaus they are supposed to have unlitimed bank of spells.

Alson 10-26-2002 08:47 AM

Any Sorcerer or Mage can do just that and far more, but i don't see anybody claiming that Arcane Magic takes the fun out, right? ;)

They do NOT have unlimited spells, they have 1 spell trigger, chain contingency, spell sequencer, contingency and a load of other spells. The cheese is, that they can load ANY spell into a spell sequencer or trigger, they are not restricted by spell level. Furthermore, they *get* several spells for free, like they get prot from evil when gating in a fiend.

Also, Liches work with a different spell system, as explained in their kit description. My lvl 18 sorc is capable of completely draining a lich of ALL his spells, forcing him to engage me in melee.

Liches CAN defeat anyone, but so can you!

A Mustard Jelly can defeat a Lich... ...

Slizerio 10-28-2002 01:31 AM

It says something about having unlimited spells in the ranger enemy description. I am not sure if thats true...

TaSSaDaR 10-28-2002 07:28 AM

I know this is a dumb question...

Is there a way to install that pretty Lich mod without IEE? I have no means of downloading it... Any suggestions?
