That sounds entertaining. I think I would make a kobold mage, perhaps necromancer. :)

Ah - well, wizards (and sorcerers) are a bit iffy in that:

1. You need to find monsters with high enough INT (or CHA) to become wizards (or sorcerers) first.
2. There is a strange thing (bug?) concerning NPC wizards/sorcerers in that when gaining levels, they tend to choose one (or no) seemingly random (but not random) spell (like a 4th level spell for some reason when you cannot cast it yet). (Normally, PCs can choose 2 spells at each level gained.)

Also, I don't think I have seen any kobolds in that game...

Well, in that case...I wanna make a troll bard. :)

Re: manikus' Web Site

Oops - bards need high CHA, too :D

Most monsters are too stupid/ugly/foolish to be any spellcasting class (most are relegated to being fighters, barbarians, rogues, or... rangers (for some reason)). Plus, monsters cannot have deities, so you cannot have clerics, either.

Still, I found that goblins make interesting druids, and some of the bugbears around can be spellcasters as well; there are more as well (more difficult monsters tend to have better stats).

So, what about an ogre acrobat? A beholder paladin? :D:D:D

Re: manikus' Web Site

I've yet to find any monster capable of becoming a paladin or monk :) (Alignment restrictions?)

You can cast the same spell on actual human NPCs and try it, though (even townsfolk, etc.). I've not gone through the entire game yet, but if I come across a beholder, I will definitely try to add it to my party - surely it will have enough intelligence to learn magic! :D

(So far, it seems that regeneration and etherealness are the only special abilities that can be retained (since they do not require special commands); besides that, you do get extra HP, high ability scores, and natural AC, though...)

If you hex edited the save file you might be able to achieve this quite easily. First you would need to decrypt it of course, that is usually not too hard.

Re: manikus' Web Site

Well, that is true (you never know until you try), but for some reason that makes it less fun for me... except maybe if I can have a will o' wisp NPC, that would be fun! :D

Re: manikus' Web Site

I, in all honesty, would never use the trick. I find that if I'm in a position where I could start fooling around with a game, I usually put it aside and go pick up DC. :D

TEE is covered in two sites, Sorceror's Place:
http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/ToEE/index_editors.php
and the Circle of Eight forum:
http://www.co8.org/forum
Sorceror's Place, there is actually a hex editing guide, that is down for maintenance. There is also a Character Editor.
