Re: Got a question...

I only posted my opinion because I saw an opportunity to use the term "smut cornacopia" in a post and just couldn't resist. :D

Seriously,
*B* I'm sure you'll do what you think is right and it probably is. Communication is rarely a bad thing amongst reasonable people. I'm just not that suprised or concerned a twelve year old is dabbling in style of humor which often described as "juvenile".

LOL! "Smut cornucopia" is definitely the phrase of the day!

I'm not overly surprised or concerned either. I do, however, remember just how reliable some of the sources of information were back then. Hustler isn't exactly known for reliable information ;)

Like I said, I view it as a teaching opportunity for my kids. A chance for them to realize the world is out there, and to understand how what they do affects it (and can turn around and affect them, too!).

We'll see.... ;)

Tell them via e-mail, with a link. Then his dad can say he happened to see it. Problem solved for the most part, unless his dad doesn't care, in which case he will probably let you know. As for restricting your child, I'm not so sure. As you said, they will eventually have to deal with the world, and it's not always roses and sunshine.

Speaking of which, a couple more folks have suggested MYOB. If you wouldn't mind, I'm interested in why you say that. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to discuss it here. I'm not trying to make anyone bad or wrong, by any means. I'm looking for input to help me make up my mind.

I do suspect there's an element of using big words going on. We're also dealing with a 12-year-old, and while I remember (all too well!) what it was like to be 12, I don't intend to tell someone else what to do or not do with their children. I'm extremely liberal in that regard. My wife's the social worker; she can get involved if need be :heee:

My thought is to say, "Hey, I came across this. If my kids did it, I'd want to know. So I'm letting you know. That's it. I don't expect you to do anything, or need to know you did anything, or anything like that. Just a dad, letting another parent know what I saw. Ball's in your court, and I'm now playing a different game."

Or something like that, perhaps with one or two fewer cliched expressions ;)

I think this is a perfectly acceptable response and I like the way you phrased it (minus the cliche's). All you have to say is "I saw this. If my kids did it, I would want to know, so I'm letting you know." The e-mail with attached link is also not a bad idea. You're not judging the child or the parent, you're just saying "Hey, thought you might want to see this" and leaving it at that.
