This joke was sent to me by email. I thought about putting in the "joke" thread, but then I thought it would be too obvious.

Please everyone, don't attack each other over it. Maybe I didn't think before posting it. Goodness knows it would not be the first time.

Probably does belong over in the jokes thread. Per Snopes, it's untrue.

That said, I agree with FSA that Carrotdude's comments crossed a line, or at least came close to it. FSA was, IMHO, very polite in his response and made sure not to cross a second line. Wellard blew us over a third line with hurricane-force winds ;)

That line between humor and offense can be razor-thin, sometimes... so let me feebly push back over with an old one:

A priest, a rabbi, and a lawyer walk into a bar.

Ouch!

Hmmm... I don't think that's gotten any better with age.

Why did Carrotdude cross the line? He did not post the original joke nor did he use any offensive comments other than to mirror those already posted against us atheists. Many people with 'religious views' may not like their religion / mental aptitude called into question but maybe they should understand that people with an opposing point of view may feel just as strong.

I'm very dissapointed and suprised in you claiming carrotdude was over the line Bung, you of all people. maybe you can point out in his post where he differed from the joke?

If I make a remark about Canadians being idiots would it be so wrong for Variol to call Australians idiots in return? But then have some shit stirrer come in and say it was offensive for Variol to call Australians idiots? ...there is no absoloutley no difference is there.

We have the benefit of knowing Variol over many years and know that he is not a nasty or vindictive person, so we don't read anything wrong in his joke post, I certainly did not. Carrot dude may or may not know Variol as well which may or may not have influenced his reply but I see nothing in his reply that was not already in the joke.

Thanks Wellard,
I think the mistake was mine by not putting a little comment, or smiley in there to make it obvious. Or better yet, post in the joke thread. I'm sure nothing would have happened, had I placed it there.

I think carrotedude's comment was a bit harsh and perhaps unnecessary, since it's really a mute comment. Of course, even atheist and non-believer is going think that.

I will say though, that I have never, ever found a non-believer who has asked to work on a religious holiday, because they don't believe in it. They all seem to enjoy the day off, just the same.

..and sometimes I think we are idiots; up here freezing to death!! ( is there a freezing smiley someone can add in here?)

You're right, carrotdude was only responding to the tone he read in the OP.

You, on the other hand, did cross the line by resorting to personal insults and profanity. Responses like that are what led to the moratorium in the first place.

When I wake up & remember my company gave me a day off with pay, I don't question the reason why, I just roll over & go back to sleep. Don't look a gift horse...

Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned."

And this is?

I think a few of you need to take a step back, breathe in and let it go.

It's all goo, Variol! I took it for what it is.

Did no one notice Carrotdude's ":P" in the title of his comment?

Personally I found both the joke and the remark amusing. *disappears back into lurking*
