Oh, and encountered another bug... For the second time in a row, the game crashed when I was heading downstairs from the first floor in the Jovial Juggler, in Beregost. Not that there's much to do at that floor (only the Paladin-fearing guy ;) ), but worth noting. Once I encounter more, I'll post them on the teambg-forums.

Alright, just realized Imoen, Khalid and Jaheira all have the infamous Belt of Invincibility (because of their value in the BG2-storyline). Every time they get close to death, they run off to the Friendly Arms Inn. Hmm, maybe I'll go for a party with Alora, Skie, Branwen and Xan; at least they don't appear in BG2 (not counting the tutorial).

Oh, and I can't really recall this from BG1... But is it normal for swords to break so easily? I've hardly reached Beregost and so far 4 (!) weapons have already crumbled... Is it part of the BG2-engine which causes non-magical weapons to break so easily? As I can't recall having to buy new weapons every 10 minutes from my previous runs through BG1.

This on is known, I think there are two stairs down, one of which has a dead travel trigger, so use the other set.

Open near infinity, open those characters, find their override scripts, delete the block that triggers on condition "HP(myself,1)". Shadowkeeper off the belts. They seem to act normaly after than, although you might need to start a new game for it to take effect.

I could put a mini-mod up to remove the belts ands scripts more easily if you want. Just let me know.

Mines seem to be breaking at the normal rate, IE in the middle of huge battles when I really *DO* *NOT* want people using fists. There was a bug with this earlier on though, I think it was patch 1.5 that fixed it, so if you havent patched that high, now would be a good time]

BG2 handles some things differntly, but this script isnt one of them. Maybe you just got unlucky.

Edit: Does it change the game (any quests or anything) in any way?

This is a BG2 mod that replaces the BG2 tutorial with the entire BG1 game. Effectively, it lets you play through BG1,TotSC,Soa and ToB in one seamless game and with the BG2 engine and ruleset throughout.

It includes the ascension mod, and Bardez altered the way TotSC is handled, in an attempt to avoid the discontinuity between BG1 and BG2 where your party gets messed up, but this is still an area that needs some work.

Other than that, the game should act as it always did, but there are more than a few bug left in it yet.

Oh, I *know* how to work my way around it, that's not the problem. ;) I just don't know if removing the belt will cause problems later on when the game moves on from Tales to the Sword Coast to Baldurs Gate II, continuity-wise; what will happen if Imoen died in the Nashkell Mines? Will she just miraculously appear without explanation once it's BG2-time?

Patched up to 1.7 actually, so that's not it... I suppose it's just bad luck, then.

What is this ascension mod, anyways? I've heard about it, but don't know exactly what it adds to the game.
And at the beginning of BG2 it is assumed your party consisted of yourself, Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Dynaheir and Minsc; so what will happen if I had a party consisting of completely different characters, not included in BG2? And what will happen when I had a party consisting of characters who *do* appear in BG2, but who aren't available as npc's, like Xan, Corgan, Safana, Quayle and Tiax - or not immediately available as npc's, like Edwin and Viconia? Will they simply vanish from one moment to another from my party for the sake of continuity?

Ascension is a mod which makes the ToB bhaalspawn battles and the final battle more difficult.

andrewas 07-06-2003 07:25 AM

Its clumsy, but you will end up in irenicus' dungeon with Imoen, Khalid and Jahiera no matter what you do. All those characters have Havaerian Syndrom, you can chunk them and they will come back. Any other characters will not be present.

If I was a better modder Id do something about it, I would *love* to be able to take my BG1 party all the way through, but to do even a half-assed job of it would take a lot of work.

Ah... Weird he decided to include that particular mod then, a bit annoying as well. Personally I don't care much for all the tougher enemies; I have to admit I prefer the Bhaalspawn just as they are (some were easy, some were difficult enough as they were). While I can understand why others want more of a challenge out of their battles, I mostly play for fun purposes, not to be smeared across the floor during the first 20 attempts just because I didn't use The Ultimate Tactics or because the big baddie is suddenly firing off Imprisonments like a machine-gun (what do you mean, unbalanced and unrealistic?). I'm not that much of a sadomasochistic purist. ;)

Pity. :( I was already looking forward to taking some of the "forgotten" BG1-characters through BG2, just for a change. Maybe they'll improve that part in the future, once most of the other bugs have been dealt with.
But andrewas, have you already played the mod so far yourself that you've already reached that particular point in the "trilogy"?

edit: Bub Snikt's dialogue is messed up as well; the conversation ends automatically once you're talking back to him. Was that also reported already in the bug report section of the BGT-forum?
