Well, they are tiny, blue and hilarious looking. And for some reason, not counting Smurfette, none of them wear shirts. :)

Smurfette - now she was smurfy!

There were one or two adolescent female smurfs as well (almost as annoying as Scrappy Doo and such, but not as bad)...

The whole smurf race was strange as a whole, as it seemed that if you listed them by generation:

1st generation: 1 smurf (grandpa smurf)
2nd generation: 1 smurf (papa smurf)
3rd generation: billions of smurfs (including just ONE female)
4th generation: 4 or 5 smurfs
5th generation: 1 smurf (baby smurf)

What gives? :D How did papa smurf manage to procreate so many without a "Mama smurf," anyway? And where did the tweens and baby come from?

Oh, so you don't know about the great war, I take it.

Well, Gargamel is just a jonny-come-lately on the scene. Back when all of the adult smurfs were children, the nation of Smurfia was invaded by giant stuffed bears, each with a different insignia on their belly. They rode in on the backs of their liitle ponies. Fearing that all would be lost, Grandpa Smurf, then known as President Smurf, called upon Smurfia's greatest allies, the Brites, lead by the powerful witch, Rainbow. Even then, things weren't going well. In a desperate move to save the children, Rainbow cast a powerful spell which consumed the bodies of the Smurfs in it's casting, but forever banned the bears and their steeds from entering Smurfia. Grandpa/President Smurf was left with a whole generation of children to raise on his own until one lone Smurf, Explorer Smurf who had been adventuring in a nearby cabbage patch, returned to help him and adopted the name Papa Smurf. :):D:)

The several young ones around now, are all really the same generation, in came about as a result of Smurfette going off the pill for a while, because it was making her feel fat. :D

Ooh, I knew those bears were pure evil the moment I first saw them! (Slightly less evil than Brite and her "friends," though.)

(Too bad they couldn't make more female smurfs (of viable age) - 100+ male smurfs + 1 Smurfette can't be pretty!)

It was confusing for a while before Tranny Smurf moved out on her own...

If only the Smurfs had realized that the witch's plan came at too high a cost.

Smurfy Smurf
Decrepit Smurf - the oldest smurf of all!
Ninja Smurf - even Papa Smurf can't control him
Naked Smurf - too titillating for the others
Moogoogai Smurf - blood brother of Moogoogai Boo
X-Smurf - born with mutant powers, he is the object of prejudice by the other smurfs... :D

Albino Smurf - kept hidden away b/c he's not blue
Gangsta Smurf - Don't hate the smurfer, hate the game
Mime Smurf - he actually fell down a well, and the other smurfs can't see his pantomimed pleas for help
