ruby's humming is abruptly disrupted first by dantes and then by a heart wrenching scream. like the howl of the wolf earlier, ruby's heart literally clenches in agony and rage for the beast. but more importantly something was wrong with their lagging companions. even with her heart acheing to rush forward and avenge the cry of death, she turns wyrd towards where they had just been.

wyrd takes off with urgency, as if he were late for the call he heard before. *i know, i know, i'll listen to you next time, i promise!* ruby 'speaks to wyrd *hurry i'm sure we're needed!*

OOC: nathan looked it up and wyrd's movement rate is 12. let me know when we arrive.

As Dantes flies closer he notices a patch of darkness covering part of an open area ahead of him. Well at least he knew where to go. As he approaced he noticed fresh blood dripping from the mouth of a bulette, large, even for its kind, this monsterous beast appeared to be besting his two companions. Bredon appeared to have received a vicious wound from the beast, and Syrathic looked to be in bad shape as well. The ground was begining to turn a dark reddish brown color from the blood staining it. As soon as he got within range Dantes began the workings of a spell, from the back of his lammasu companion.
OOC: that spell is going to be a haste spell, centered on himself, his lammasu companion as well as Brendon and Syrathic.

Dankorona watched as all his companions took off in the direction they had just come from, and he sighed. The humans were so impetuous. he knew that there must be trouble, but he didn't know how they just rushed off and charged into whatever was waiting. He then started hurrying back, but got distracted by a something he noticed shining in the bushes. He reached down and fished through the bushes and pulled out a ring. It was a rather ordinary ring, silver with a band of gold running through the middle. he stopped to admire it a moment and then slipped it inot his pocket, not really thinking twice about it. He then started off towards his companions are a rather swift jogging pace for a gnome, his little legs pumping steadily for about 6 steps until he tripped over his own untied boot lace. Dankorona uttered a few curses as he tied his shoe and then took off again in the direction of his companions. He managed to make it about 12 steps before he tripped over the other untied boot lace and fell flat on his face. Dankorona uttered a stream of curses that would have made a sailor blush as he tied his shoe and headed off again towards his friends who were presumably in trouble.

Syrathic watched in horror as Brendon was bitten by the creature. He had charged in without thinking, hoping only to save the elf. Syrathic was impressed by Brendon's loyalty to his friends, even ones he had just met.

The elf took a deep breath right before charging in. With the crest up, the part that would seem the most vulnerable was now open to attack. With the creature now focused on Brendon, the elf hoped that he or the newcomer could save Brendon and kill the creature. "I don't have much left," he thought, "and if I take another blow, I'm going to have to retreat. But I have to attempt to save my... friend." Yes, Brendon could be considered that now.

As he charged, he could hear a voice starting to cast a spell. "Hopefully, that's Brendon's companion and not another surprise."

ooc: Syrathic is tiring from the wounds he has taken as the fight drags on. Cyril, he's attempting to leap up to the vulnerable spot, a leap he would normally make fairly easily, but his fatigue might be too much. I'll let you decide if he makes it.

Brendon Grey

Nearly half of his life had been ripped away in that one attack. Brendon was basically useless. He could not think of anything for the terrible pain in his body...the places where a creature had sunk it's teeth into him. Tears welled up in his eyes as he heard the beast growling in victory of this easy kill. Why had he not stayed outside and jsut shot arrows? Where was Syrathic? He tried to move, but could not. The pain tore into him too severely. He decided that the only thing he could do was to try to stab the creature in it's maw the next time it came at him. He raised his sword, shakingly upward, hoping that he would be able to save his own life this time. He was not aware of anyone else on the scene.

OOC>>>Is that good? I figured that he has something like 70hp for his level. I am not real sure if that is accurate, but it is fine with me unless somebody wants to contest it. Obviously, losiong half his life to the teeth of a beast would shake up a young man enough to not be useful for a few rounds.

For all those involved in the battle or rushing toward it

The prey has fallen and the creature gathers itself for the killing strike. It does not move forward, however, for a great pain shoots through its muscles as the elf’s blade sinks deeply into the exposed flesh beneath the crest. Roaring in pain and anger, the creature bucks throwing its attacker off of its wounded back. The elf lands roughly but with a sudden swiftness asserting itself in his limbs he easily avoids the slashing of the creature’s claws. Wounded, angry and maddened by the smell and taste of blood, the bulette roars and prepares to rush.

ooc: The Haste spell has affected Brendon and Syrathic as well as Dantes and his mount. The surge of energy in his limbs should allow Brendon to move out of immediate danger now that the creature is distracted.

The sound of Morguerat’s charge heralds his approach and Ruby with Wyrd follow along a bit behind him. Morguerat should be able to attack after the creature’s next action.

Brendon

Brendon could feel the workings of magic within himself, and though he'd hoped it was a spell of healing, it was in acutality a spell of movement enhancement. Suddenly, his actions were magnified and he was able to scoot himself along the dirt and out of the way of the beast. By now, he realized that the others had finally caught up to the battle and were here to save his sorry life.

Lord Starshadow 10-30-2002 02:41 AM

Syrathic smiled grimly as his blade found soft flesh. "Ah, some success at last! Finally, some real damage!" After taking a beating at the hands of the creature, it felt good to finally inflict some pain. But before he could relish the moment too much, the beast bucked him off, knocking the elf to the ground.

The elf cursed in his native tongue as he landed heavily on the ground. Many gods were probably offended in those few moments, but it made him feel better. He knew the creature was coming for him and his body was tired. All the creature would have to do is attack him and he'd be finished. At least he had spared Brendon from being eaten... for the moment.

But as he lay there, he felt a curious sensation in his body. "A spell!" he realized. "Please be healing..." However, instead of the tranquility of healing, he found his body infused with an uncanny speed. "A haste spell! Better than nothing, I suppose. It'll help keep me from being eaten, at least."

The creature advanced and attacked, but with his magically enhanced agility, the elf was easily able to evade it. He looked to the side and saw Dantes, and in the distance, two more figures, one on a large warhorse and one on a lion. They were approaching fast, to Syrathic's relief. "Brendon! Looks like we've got more help on the way!"

The elf prepared to charge once again, moving and readjusting himself as the creature attacked. "It's wounded now, so we have to take advantage. The one on that flying thing appears to be a mage of some sort, so probably no physical help will come from there. The one on the warhorse is definitely a warrior of some sort. If he gets here quickly enough, he'll be a great help. And the last one? Well, I hope she's got some tricks up her sleeve."

The elf took a deep breath as he prepared his move. "Hit and run, Syrathic. Use the enhanced speed to your advantage. Stick it with the blades, then get the hell out of dodge. Let's try not to get hit again." But his charge would be for naught if the mage had something powerful in mind. He glanced toward the mage, then quickly brought his eyes back to the creature. "What are you going to do, mage? I don't want to be fried along with the creature. Say the word and I'll charge. If not, I'll help keep Brendon from being killed."

ooc: Syrathic's next move depends on Dantes. If Dantes wants Syrathic to charge in, he'll do that. If Dantes is going to cast an offensive spell, Syrathic will move towards Brendon in order to help protect him.

AzRaeL StoRmBlaDe 10-30-2002 06:48 PM

Dantes replies with a single word. A single word that held the power of an entire spell rolls off Dantes' tongue, his hand pointed at the giant beast in front of him.
"Attack quickly, but be careful, it should be stunned, but not for long" Dantes replies as he unseaths his Katana and moves in to strike the beast.

OOC: Realizing his companions are injured pretty good, Dantes had to pull out the big guns and cast a POWER WORD 'STUN' spell. Its up to our DM how/if that spell takes. Either way it should be interesting ;)

Cyril Darkcloud 10-30-2002 08:42 PM

A simple syllable bearing power strikes the creature and as the air bearing that powerful breath washes over its body its movement suddenly stops. It stops. This cessation of movement is for but a moment, however for great is its resistance to enchantment and greater still is the powerful hunger after flesh that drives it. The spell, mighty as it is, cannot stop the creature. But movement has become difficult as if its limbs were suddenly grown heavy and stiff. Bellowing, the creature spits forth another cloud of shadowy darkness.

ooc: The bulette has been slowed and the area of battle is once more shrouded in darkness. It is also distracted by the change in its movement. Syrathic and Brendon - You are now moving roughly 4X as fast as the creature – a successful backstab or a couple well-placed arrows in its vulnerable area might finish the fight right here.
