Arlyth's face was not amused. A slight frown creased his forehead, and he answered Alae first; "No, no I was not informed of this; but then, being a child, I would not expect you to." his tone held a slight trace of acidity. "With the same breath, you both manage to tell me that I'm still a child, and at the same time, expect me to behave like an adult." His eyes flashed, and swirled emeralds and forest greens. He adressed Alaerth, his tone cold. "I expect nothing of the sort from you, sire." his teeth almost gritted. He was most definately not pleased by this turn of events. The young elf glared at both his cousins, "If you do not wish me with you; or feel that I am a... liabity, just say and I won't accompany you." Arlyth snarled, "Need I remind you both that I travelled here by myself; alone, and had to fight my way through the forests? Or perhaps, that I slew those drow assassins sent after me, single handedly? Perhaps you question my ability with a sword." Arlyth's tone was soft, almost a whisper. Dark and accusing, it was clear that they had insulted him. "May I be excused?" he hissed, and pushed back his chair without waiting for an answer, finished, "I see I made a mistake in coming here. It was nice meeting you, dear cousins. By your leave, I shall quit the castle. Farewell." and before anyone could answer, promptly cast dimension door, teleporting back to his room. He expected they'd think he was throwing a tantrum, but he didn't care.
Sylquis walked up to Alae, and spoke, her voice soft, "He... is very much like his father at times. You've insulted him." she said her eyes somewhat worried. "I would speak with him, but it would do no good. Might I suggest that you speak with him, Alae? He is very fond of you.." Sylquis's words were to Alae only, and she ignored Alaerth, knowing he wouldn't understand. [ 09-18-2003, 11:16 AM: Message edited by: Calaethis Dragonsbane ] |
"Who purged his poridge?" Gus thought as he pretended to smile while chewing on the very differint tasting bread. It wasn't bad, but it wasnt really good either. Kind of sour, but also kind of bland... but bland in a good way... over the sourness of it all... "So whatchu' call dis?" He said with bits of bread still in between his teeth.

Alaerth was too enraged by the young elf's clear display of insolence to even pound his fist on the table and yell at everyone. No one besides Alliene and Alae had ever dared talk to him like that, and that had only been when he was younger, when Verloren was still the ruler.
Alliene herself looked quite amused and was having trouble keeping the wicked grin off her face. She instead turned to Gus and told him the bread was called sour dough. During Arlyth's tyrade, Alae's face had gone blank, but now her eyes were as crimson as her brother's. She rose from the chair and left the hall without a word. The princess reached the room Arlyth was using and opened the door, took a step in, and shut it sharply behind her. Arlyth could see she was quite angry, but he should have expected that. Before he could make any move or say anything, she grabbed his arm and swung him into a chair, then planted herself in front of it so he couldn't rise, "Understand, young cousin, that the dangers we will face are much more dangerous than woodland monsters and drow. Alaerth and I have a right to worry about you. You however, do not have the right to speak to us in such a manner. Explain yourself." |
"Arlyth's own eyes were blazing green; clear emerald, and they were flaming. "Release me." he replied, his tone flat, dead. "Now." his tone showed that he was in no mood for her to disobey him, none whatsoever. "Let me go, Alae." he replied his voice ever so soft. "The fact that I had to bypass a minotaur, and hide from a fledging green dragon with no more inteligence then a Wyvern on the way here won't convince you I can take care of myself. You don't want me around." his tone was soft, and his eyes stopped burning. "You heard Aunty Sylquis... she said whatever evil is out there is after me as well... those assassin's were meant for me... and you want to leave me behind here?! Away from your protection?" he asked his voice almost breaking, "Away from you?" Alae realised that her suggestion to send him away from her had cut deep. "And... then... Alaerth... and..." throwing his arms around her, the young elf burst into tears and hugged her, and through choked sobs whispered, "You-don't-want-me-around."

"So are we going to go and save this... err i mean... the world or what?" Gus finally decided to throw the question around the table.

"Eventually." Alliene told him as she watched Alaerth tear bread into little pieces, "As soon as my niece is done doing...whatever."
A very draconic growl rumbled in Alae's chest as Arlyth embraced her, "You are in no position to order me around, Arlyth." It was obvious she wasn't afraid of him and wasn't very impressed, "This is why we do not want you to go. This attitude of superiority you have conjured from somewhere is unacceptable. That is why Alaerth is upset. He is a king, you musn't talk him him so. Ever." She pushed him back into the chair, "Listen to my words, young one. We never said we would send you away or that you could not go. Should not go is what we said. Likewise, if you chose to come, we will not tolerate this disposition. If you want to come, change it, and apologise to Alaerth for how you spoke to him. If you cannot do that, then you are not the cousin I thought you to be." [ 09-18-2003, 07:41 PM: Message edited by: Lady Blue03 ] |
"It wasn't an order!" Arlyth replied sullenly. "First you say I'm a child, and then you tell me to expect me to be an adult..." his tone was sulky. "Why don't you just hit me? he asked, his eyes looking at the floor. "I know the rest of them would. I expect even mother and father - especially them - would slap me for this." he looked up at his cousin, and continued, "And you did imply you wanted me away. Alaerth did at least... I know he wants me away. he grumbled. "Why shoudl I appologise to him? Hes not my king!" Alae could tell that Arlyth wasn't angry any more, just sullen. "If you ask me to appologise... maybe I will..."
|
"He is not your king. But you are in his home. And you insulted him by showing him disrespect in his own domain. If you do not apologize, I will be more displeased." She took a step towards the door, "A child you are, this is true, and we cannot allow chilidsh behavior on our quest, do you understand this? We are not asking you to be an adult, merely mature." She turned around, "I will give you time to consider my words." She glanced back as she opened the door, "I suspected by the look on Alliene's face that you reminded her of Calaethis during your tantrum. I'm sure you do not want that." She stepped out and closed the door. Whether she meant he did not want to be reminding Alliene of his father or he did not want to be acting like his father was left unclear, but it was probably both.

Arlyth snarled and locked the door, barring it, and pushing a chest of drawers against it. Then he walked over to the other door, and did the same, baricading himself within the room. Then he packed. Everything that was his. Once he was finished, he laid everything neatly to the side of the bed, his katana and wakazashi in their sheaths, his back all neatly packed, and ready for him to take off at a moments notice. He wandered around the room, looking at the various objects. Sighing, he returned to the bed, and sat down and brooded. Alae was right... but Alaerth had insulted him! In front of Alae, Sylquis... Alliene... and she had been smiling... why had Alliene being smiling? What was Alae saying about Calaethis? He... was acting like him? What the... madness. Arlyth grumbled, he really ought to appologise, but he wasn't going out in front of everyone to do it. That would just make him look like a dog crawling back with it's tail between it's legs. Then he hissed, Alaerth's tone was meant to insult him. His surly voice... he had meant to disgrace him. He had to have done. But... Alae asked him to appologise... and.. Arlyth loved his cousin. He snarled again. And paced. Then sat down again. No doubt they'd leave without him. He didn't care. He never wanted to see Alaerth or Alliene again.

Everyone turned around as Alae silently trod back into the hall and took her seat, staring moodily at her plate. Alaerth was about to ask her how it went before she spoke,
"It seems Arlyth has a problem with arrogance and authority." She said in an off-hand way. Alliene snorted, "What did you expect. Anyone raised by his abomination of a father would model after him." Alae reflected on this, then looked her brother in the eye, "Were you trying to insult him?" Alaerth's eyes flashed indignantly, "You know I do not insult people. It is a petty thing to do, especially in my own hall. I was merely trying to tell him that there could be no chilish behavior if he wanted to come." He rose, but Alae's hand stopped him. "Do not try to enter, he has bolted his door and pushed something up against both of them." Alaerth grunted, "Nothing a dragon couldn't break down." But he sat back down anyway, he wasn't about to change into his dragon form just to rip down a wall in his own castle. "I could cast a dimension door for you." Alliene offered. "Not for us." The twins said together, and both looked pointedly at Sylquis. |
