Hello All You Good People!
I have two minor problems (minor but still troubling): 1. I've choosen D3D 800x600 graphics mode, and after completing the party I went to the Armoury. After I clicked on Buy button an extraordinary event occured (it was the first time I launched the game). Everything freezed, but the music was still playing; there was no respond on any keboard stroke nor mouse action. I tried everythig, belive me, but the only button that worked was The Big Red Reset Button. After reading this topic I did everything that I haven't done before: new DX8.0a, new nVidia drivers, new Indeo codes... Still can't run in this mode... Others run just fine, but I'm curious... and besides that - 800x600 is my favourite mode! 2. Do shopkeepers accually speak? Only thing I hear when visiting Armoury, Temple or Tavern is background sound. Is it normal? (Or am I just a effect-loving-can't-live-without-speeches bugger?) And my (not very) precious baby specs: Intel Pentium III 450Mhz 192MB RAM 13GB HDD Diamond Viper V770 (nVidia chipset Riva TNT2 32MB) SB Live! 1024 ASUS CD-Rom Drive 45x Windows 98SE That's all, see (read) you later. This isn't actually a big problem, but i thought i'd ask about it anyway:
Is it normal that the wizards and warriors run sluggish on my computer? My specs: Pentium II 500 mhz 128 mb ram matrox millenium g400 direct-x 8.0 win 98 gamemode in 640x480(with the 3d card, not in software mode) http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...s/confused.gif [This message has been edited by Thompson (edited 09-04-2001).] [This message has been edited by Thompson (edited 09-04-2001).] |
I think that would depend on what all you have running in the background. Normally I would think at 640x480 mode that a 500mhz should handle it fairly well. Don't know anything about the Matrox card though...they have never been the speediest video cards.
Just as a personal comment, I would definatley upgrade to one of the newer video cards and then secondly you could invest in another 128meg of ram. But the millenium video series is ooooooold ------------------ Disintigration is easy, If you really want to impress me, ReIntegrate it. [This message has been edited by MagiK (edited 09-04-2001).] |
Yep, memory would be a wise investment. However, I do have a few more questions for you.
1- Did you defragmented your hard drive lately? That is known to have an impact on the speed of the game. 2- How big and how fast is your hard drive. For speed, I hope you have a 5400 RPM. Anything slower than that will slow down the game. 3- How big is your swap file? On a 20 gig hard drive, I have a 2 gig swap. It's plenty for anything I do. |
On the windows swap file issue, I have seen dramatic results by setting a fixed size swap file instead of letting windoze dynamicly resize things on the fly. Usually its a trade off..if you have lots of disk space its worth the time to fix the size at 2 or 3 times your memory.

My hard drive is only about 6 gigs, and it's separated to three parts (don't know why in the hell it's so). I've got only 600 megs of free space on C:\, so should i but the swap file size to 300 minimum and 600 maximum???? I'm not so good with computers...

Just can't keep up with the evolution of computers i guess http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
