Re: Art Requests
The fish swimming by would be sprites, so they wouldn't mark anything except time passing. :)

Re: Art Requests
Hmm - haven't tried much use of sprites yet (especially animated ones), so would be interesting. :)

Re: Art Requests
When you do try them, make sure to use the sprite event, or they won't show up properly.

Re: Art Requests
Ah - duly noted! :) Do they have to have three frames, or does it not matter?

Re: Art Requests
Here's another HUGE request, the legendary Kraken; which if you are not up on your Monstrous Manual (2ed) or sea legends, was a monstrous sized squid. As for a sprite for it, just some approaching tenticles would work...
Anyhow to answer the sprite question, they have 3 frames built in reverse (as in if you did an auto approach the nearest frame is first followed by the middle then farthest) ST |
Re: Art Requests
Or you can do something like this.
(Wonder why they never bothered to include this sprite in original FRUA when it appeared in DQK) |
Re: Art Requests
A kraken icon, eh? :D Hmmm - well, maybe I will do a giant squid or colossal squid one of these days (MM says 60' size, but reality is more like 30'-45'); then, later, I could resize it to double that (MM says 90' size!) or triple that, depending on what size I choose for the giant... But 90' is huge! Might be the biggest icon yet... But I will have to study squid for a while before I can attempt it (who knows how squid attack things? Or even what orientation they float about underwater anyway?)
Thanks for the explanations about the sprite! (Animated sprites seem to be somewhat easier to create, I guess, than normal sprites.) |
Re: Art Requests
Sprites: while everything that's been said so far is true, you don't need to follow the rules. :) For example if you were not using autoapproach (which is what makes the sprite appear to animate) you can have three unrelated items in each of the frames. Or, you only need fill one frame (pick anyone).
As for the fishies, I thought that was a cool trick, and Dan Autery made all of those available (plus some original ones) for use in FRUA. I'm sure they're in the archives if people are interested. |
Re: Art Requests
Yep, I saw an awesome one that was a floor pit trap, and I've been playing around with trying to make a "darkness" sprite that would cover up most of what you see so as to simulate not having a torch; but the sprites don't stay in the viewscreen unless you have the "must press return" button highlighted (for text event) and if not it just flashes up and disappears

Re: Art Requests
For darkness, have you thought about using the auto-darken feature through a GPDL call? :D
