I went to that site. Doesn't give a single piece of information worth reading. I have no idea who he is or what he's about.

Shamrock: In only a few special cases are marriages annulled.... I would imagine "He beat me" could get an annullment, whereas "We fell out of love and it's time to move on" would not. If the people who fell out of love wanted to, they could marry other people. The government would let them, but they couldn't do it in, say, a Catholic church, since their religion says people can't remarry.

Ergo, the government's marriage rules are independent of the church's.

Thanks for the info Illumina.

Incidentally, I appreciate your continuing involvement in this thread - I can imagine how it might be a rather frustrating experience for someone in your position.

Hey Cerek, I'll betcha a buck that the majority of posters who support legal gay coupling think they have the "Moral High Ground".

I do. I think my "pro-gay equality" stance contains the superior morals and I think I have helped explain why. To top it off, I will also claim the intellectual high ground. :D

This doesn't mean I think lessor of anyone who sees differently. I simply have not encountered compeling counter-arguments or counter-facts to the pro-gay side in my years of working on this initiative.

You know what he means A domestic law-making document.

As for the moral high ground, isn't this simply a legal matter? If the constitution commands we treat everyone equal under the law, then it seems like a no-brainer to me.

No need to even resort to morals

<span style="color: lightblue">Not necesarily - some religions, eg the Catholic Church say that you can't remarry (an anullment doesn't change this, to my knowledge - it actually means the original marriage never happened), but the Church of England will let you. Infact, this was one of the disagreements that led the Church of England to break off in the first place. The Orthodox churches allow divorce (and make it easy), but view it with sadness. And non-Christian religions likely have different rules again. So it depends which religion you're talking about.

You have to sign a contract! You have to take vows that you'll love each other! Marriage, in western culture, is all about consent.
