We did that some years ago for some skills. Languages were simple: French = Elvish, German = Dwarvish, etc. You had to learn some basid phrases in those languages before your character could speak it. The fighters had to research medeival weapons and armor, etc.
It sounds wierd; however, it is a great way to insure that not only do your players take their role-playing seriously but that they learn something, as well.

Cloudbringer, could I request to become coffee-brewer for the Cafe? I'll bring in all kinds of gourmet blends from the far reaches of the globe and set up "flavors of the week".

I have one hell of a hangover
3 beers yesterday lunchtime, afternoon in a meeting, then another 6 beers after, and off to a friend's house where I had a bottle of white wine and 2 large Tia Maria/Malibu concoctions - then a coffee which was at least 1/4 Tia Maria. Then I staggered home and came online. Was amazed to see that my posts last night were coherent and typed correctly.

I feel ill :( Please talk quietly :(

And my ankle hurts like HELL! I don't recall doing anything to it last night, must have though.

I've had nites like that; They're the ones that make you say "I'm never drinking again!" This lasts 'til the hangover wears off.

Downunda, I have to say I've never told myself I'll never drink again. I know I'll be at it again soon - tomorrow night if I'm lucky! :D The hangover sucks, but I do enjoy my beer. I usually give myself a day to recover after a binge before starting again.

You must be one tough lady Epona (no offence ;) )
There would've been a period of about six months, just after I turned Nineteen, where I would go into town on a Saturday nite, get sh!tfaced, wake up at 1pm on Sunday and swear off alcohol forever. :D

Never lasted more than 24 hours though
