Well, I did the battle as I mentioned earlier and I never had problems hitting Faldorn with any weapon. I am certain that she does not have a permanent mantle (I have done only once with the Kensai->druid with the quarterstaff, but plenty of times with Jaheira in the party using Belm (+2 scimitar) and no other cheats).

....hmmmm, then I can only ask how many times you've been able to beat Improved Faldorn with a Normal Quarterstaff that you found in the pit, and when that was. You see, I have found Faldorn to be immune to all weapons of less than +3 enchantment, every single time I've tangled with her. So you may have downloaded a slightly earlier version of Improved Faldorn, and then Weimer may have given her the Mantle without bother to change the Tactics Version number.

Or it may simply be a difference between my computer and somebody else's. It's certainly happened often enough before.
Hmm. Been doing a little more checking and found that both Six and I are partially right. She does not have a permanent mantle, but she does have a permanent immunity to normal weapons in version 20. She did not have that in version 19, so this is a 'new and further improved' Faldorn - that was the reason I was able to hit her with Belm in version 20. Wow - what a wonderful fight this is - now way to hit her with magic, now way to dispel her protections (since her Shield of the Archons absorbs any dispel magics as well), no way to hit her in melee with the normal quarterstaffs, - a really 'fair' fight I should say.

As long as she's immune to normal weapons, it doesn't really matter if she has permanent Mantle or not; the normal quarterstaff can't hit her, and unless you have the shapeshifting HLAs, you won't last that long shapeshifted.

In my current party Cernd fought her and both times he got here to Near Death and both times he died. It always happens like this.

You can use your equipment in the faldorn fight...just give all of it to another party member and hand it to whoever is fighting. Always works for me! Be careful though because if you die theres no getting your stuff back!

But to some people, that goes against the rules of the fight, therefore winning that way would not be honourable.

How does one win honourably without tailoring your game around this one fight? You pretty much have to have a druid and a pretty powerful one at that with what seems like HLAs. How is the sort of cheese that Imp. Faldorn is capable of justified? Immune to all normal weapons. Pre-buffed with mantle and other various including Shield of the Archons and Ironskins? Having spirit animals? I thought the challenge would at least be a 1 on 1 battle. Sheesh.

Just my thoughts. No need to yell at me. You play your way and I play mine. Mine is "have fun". Replaying one battle over and over again just to win it isn't fun.(Unless it's trying to beat Firkraag without cheese or the Final Battles,SoA and ToB without resorting to cheese :D ) Imp. Faldorn just reeks of the stinky cheese. :D

Neo has a valid point. From what I've seen, there is nothing "honorable" or even "fair" about this fight to begin with. I agree that it should be a one-on-one battle, but Faldorn starts out with 2 Spirit Animals (which are tough opponents in their own right), and she has these new mega-buffs on top of that....and all of this before the PC even has a chance to begin casting their first spell or draw their weapon.

Given the amount of cheese Faldorn brings to this fight, "honor" doesn't enter into the equation at all. So having one of your party members toss your equipment to you is the only way to even the odds and give your PC a "fighting chance".

Personally, IMHO, and from my point of view. *cough* *cough* This is a valid method to kill Improved Faldorn, but it will not qualify as a tactic. Cheese yes, exploit yes, tactic no.

Hmmmm... I really should get around to experimenting again... but Disciples 2 beckons... ...
